Practice break-even calculator
How the estimate is calculated
- Contribution per session
- C = price × (1 − percentage_fee) − fixed_payment_fee − variable_cost
- Cost-only break-even
- cost_only_sessions = ceil(fixed_costs / C)
- Owner-pay-plus-reserve target
- target_sessions = ceil((fixed_costs + owner_pay + reserve) / C)
- Utilization
- utilization = target_sessions / capacity
- Owner pay available at capacity
- capacity × C − fixed_costs − reserve
Worked example: At the defaults, C=$96.655 before display rounding. Cost-only break-even is 11 sessions; the owner-pay-plus-reserve target is 44 sessions, requiring 73.33% of 60-session capacity.
Select Calculate to see the cost-only break-even, the owner-pay-plus-reserve target and how it compares with your capacity.

How to read the result
This model assumes the sessions counted are completed and paid. It does not assume revenue from cancellations or package breakage. If your capacity changes seasonally, calculate each month separately. The result does not include your personal income tax unless you deliberately included a reserve for it.
Fractional targets always round up, and the calculation keeps full precision until that final step. If the target is higher than your capacity, the calculator still shows the target, together with the gap and a capacity warning.
Optional: the kit adds an editable pricing and package workbook that uses the same core formulas. See the Practice Business Kit
